Gary Cooper stars as U.S. Army Major Thomas Thorn who, believing himself to be a coward, is relieved of his combat command and assigned the personally inglorious task of finding five potential Congressional Medal of Honor winners and bringing them safely to the military base at Cordura.
Along the way, Thorn becomes involved with an American women (Rita Hayworth) accused of treason. Thorn finds the five heroes. But what seemed to be an easy mission turns into a desperate struggle in the wild, desolate region that tests the groups endurance, courage and will to survive and the surprising true character of these seven people is revealed.
