Bodyguard

Reuniting the stars and filmmakers responsible for the universally acclaimed Thai action movie Ong-Bak, THE BODYGUARD marks the writing and directorial debut of Tony Jaa’s Ong-Bak co-star, the multi-talented actor, comedian and TV host Petchtai Wongkamlau.

THE BODYGUARD is a fast-paced action-comedy that combines John Woo-style gunplay with martial arts fight sequences and slapstick humour reminiscent of Sammo Hung’s best work.

Wongkamlau himself stars as the eponymous bodyguard, Wongkom, who is fired from his post when his boss is assassinated. But when his former boss’ son also becomes a target for the killers, he finds himself back in a job and on the trail of the mysterious assassins. The son, meanwhile, is forced to hide out in the city’s slum area with a kind but constantly bickering family who agree to take him in. There, he sparks up a romantic relationship with the family’s tomboy daughter, Pok (Pumwaree Yodkamol).

A balletic, ballistic, comedy stunt-fest, THE BODYGUARD begins with a bang and never lets up on the action. From its explosive opening shootout to its devastating kung fu showdown by way of several outrageous chase sequences (including a naked Wongkom on the run and the ingenious simultaneous destruction of four airborne BMW cars!), THE BODYGUARD is a must-see movie for all fans of action cinema.
